"The Church where you feel like Family"

Northwoods Baptist Church Invites You to Meet Our New Pastor!

Northwoods Baptist Church of Shell Lake, WI called Martin Coon to be our pastor on June 3, 2018 after he had been serving as Interim Pastor since March 7, 2018.  Pastor Coon and his family have been living in Eau Claire and commuting each weekend, but as of September they fully reside in Shell Lake and so we are excited to introduce the community to our new pastor and our new pastor to our community. Pastor Coon is the 3rd pastor in the 15 years of ministry that Northwoods Baptist Church has had to the Shell Lake/Spooner area.  The church is located at W6268 Cranberry Drive Shell Lake, WI  54871 – – just 1 mile north of County Road B and 5 minutes south of Spooner on the corner of HWY 253 and Cranberry.
Martin’s heartbeat is that of a pastor. He loves his church and continues to have a passion for ministering to people in the community and surrounding areas. Pastor Coon understands that through the roller-coaster of life’s journey his faith has helped him maintain a close-knit fellowship with God. He strives to help his church family and community experience this same stability through faith in Jesus Christ and reliance on His promises and provision.
"The ministry of the church, as defined in the New Testament, was never meant to be a one-man show. Christ designed His church to grow and mature when every member of that body uses their various gifts and talents to contribute to the effective working of the ministry (Ephesians 4:15-16). He called spiritual shepherds, or pastors, to partner with believers in this maturing process by teaching and preaching God’s Word (Ephesians 4:12-14).  When every member of the church body is following Christ’s design, the emphasis will center on relationship with Jesus, the individual’s evaluation of their sufficiency will decrease, the Gospel will be central, and the church will grow biblically." ~Pastor Martin Coon
March 20, 1980 was a turning point in Pastor Martin Coon's life. It was on that day that, as a nine year old boy, he trusted Christ as his personal Savior. His heart and passion for God are evident in his desire to introduce others to Christ and see them grow in their relationship with Him.
Martin Coon was born in Peoria, Illinois and received his early schooling in Illinois and Indiana. He attended high school in Florida, where his father pastored for over 25 years. After high school, he served in the military for nearly 18 years before being medically discharged due to injuries in the line of duty.  While in the military, he served in peacetime and combat operations being awarded multiple awards for his leadership and "valor in the face of danger."  Pastor Coon says that the military taught him many valuable lessons regarding preparation, self-discipline, leadership, team-building, and, yes, even lessons useful for the ministry.
While on active duty in the Marine Corps, Pastor Coon sensed God's call to the ministry and he enrolled in college to receive his pastoral training.  Pastor Coon has served as a Youth Pastor, Music Pastor, Christian School Administrator and Senior Pastor in various churches across America from New England (in Massachusetts); to the south (in South Carolina); to the west coast (Los Angeles, California).  Prior to coming to the Spooner area, Pastor Coon ministered in the Midwest in Nebraska, Kansas, and Illinois – He understands our Midwest way of life (though he does have a southern accent).
Martin Coon is married to the former Kimberly Cramer of Sanford, FL, and they were married on December 31, 1992.  They have two sons and one daughter.  Pastor Coon's wife and daughter are serving with him here at Northwoods – one son attends college in Florida, and one is married and living in the Denver, CO area.
You can meet Pastor Coon at one of our services on Sundays @ 11:00 am & 6:00 pm or Wednesdays @ 7:00 pm
